The United States Vows a Significant Funding Sum, Issuing a Stark Warning to the UN.

With an announcement that combines financial support with a clear warning, the United States has committed $2 billion for UN emergency relief efforts. Yet, this contribution was accompanied by a direct warning for the international body: it must "adapt or die."

A Major Pledge Amid Wider Budget Reductions

The funding announcement came amid substantial cuts in US support of humanitarian operations. Additional reductions are also anticipated from other major contributors including the UK and Germany. The US representative, President Trump's Under Secretary for Foreign Assistance, made the announcement together with the UN's emergency relief chief.

"These funds will help save millions of lives," affirmed the UN's relief coordinator. However, this sum is only a fraction of the United States' historical contributions, which previously totaled around $17 billion just a few years ago.

Aid Accompanied by Major Restrictions

Issuing a direct ultimatum, the US official warned the UN that it must "change or face irrelevance." He stated that the US "coffers is not open to agencies that seek to return to outdated ways."
